Unicity Network High Speed Order Entry and Distributor Application Process on the Web

Unicity Network needed a faster and simpler way to process distributor applications and orders over the web. A pure HTML based interface was preferred in order to maximize performance and minimize the end user learning curve. They called on Runner Technologies to conceptualize and implement a web-based solution.

Issue

Unicity Network supports their global call centers with several hundred seats throughout the Americas and Asia. A centralized Oracle database server supports multiple countries in each region. Unicity’s rapid growth demanded a redesign of their order entry and customer service application, both to improve performance and streamline their key business processes. Unicity wanted a pure web based solution that offered a more robust and feature rich user interface and did not have the overhead of Java.

Technical Solution

Orbit was chosen as the technology to provide a true thin client browser interface. Runner Technologies was also chosen to redesign and implement the new solution. Their existing distributor application process took several screens to process and was not intuitive for new users.

After streamlining the business process, Runner Technologies was able to condense the distributor data entry to just one simple web screen, accessing multiple transaction tables on the back end. The new web based order entry screen also simplified the process of taking an order. The new order entry screen was designed as a two stage process:

  1. Entering items and payment information
  2. Authorizing the payment and automatically releasing the order
This drastically cut the time required to take an order. Other key business processes have since been converted to the web, such as return processing, note and request management, accounts receivable, shipment tracking, and order history.

Project Time Frame

The initial web screens were created in a matter of weeks and Unicity has since converted other key business processes into Orbit for a total web based solution for their call centers. The users love the fresh interface and ease of use, and their IT department has received many compliments. The Distributor Application and Order Entry process now takes less than 2 minutes to complete connecting to a database on the other side of the world.

The end result was greatly improved process time, reduced system load on the database server, and less stress for the customer service user.

Ongoing Projects

Unicity also uses Runner Technologies' CLEAN_Address() suite for global address verification, and Orbit Track for managing their project issues and enhancements and help desk tickets.
