Orbit is a web application development suite and content management system that enables a truly collaborative approach to building Oracle web-enabled applications. Orbit separates the presentation layer (HTML) from the procedural layer (PL/SQL), allowing separate skill sets to work simultaneously and creating a structured approach to web application development.

 An application built in Orbit is comprised of Pages, Sections, Queries, and Tokens. Web pages can either be dynamically generated from the database, pre-written to HTML files on a file system for faster performance, or both. This allows for the utmost flexibility when designing a web site. Orbit 5.0 adds the JSP export functionality to support running the presentation layer in Java and JSP.

 An HTML page can be broken down into its smallest components (snippets) to allow reuse on other pages. All HTML snippets and SQL queries are stored in an Oracle database, so there’s no file management to worry about. This also prevents multiple users from writing over the same file because the Oracle database handles the concurrency management.

 All version control is built into Orbit and is performed within the Oracle database. A full-featured migration utility enables developers to easily move web sites between Oracle instances (i.e. Development to Test / Test to Production migrations).

 Orbit's integrated user security allows easy assignment of page access based on role level security. Orbit's transactional integrity prevents users from submitting requests more than once, such as in a browser refresh, double-click, or using the back button and resubmitting a page.
